As a single guy I live on considerably less than 40,000 baht a month in Bangkok, but as discussed elsewhere in the forum, you need some kind of medical insurance - which can be expensive. The biggest single expense is rent, and you can still get a very nice two-bedroom apartment in Bang-na for 8,000 baht if you don't mind being about 40 minutes from the city centre.
